Mount Ephraim Gardens & Cream Tea
Departs: 4th August 2020
We spend the morning in Faversham before travelling to Mount Ephraim Gardens. The terraced Edwardian gardens are set in ten glorious acres against a backdrop of the beautiful Kent countryside. They were delighted to be the runner up in Kent Life's Kentish Garden of the year in 2016 and a finalist in the Visit Kent Small Tourist Attraction of the Year 2019.
The Dawes family have owned the land since 1695. First laid out in the early 1900s, the gardens suffered through wartime neglect and damage from use by the army. Today the gardens feature a Japanese rock garden and bridge, water garden and lake, arboretum and a spectacular grass maze. It is perhaps best known for its elaborate and unusual topiary with a miscellany of birds, animals and First World War memorabilia sited up near the main house alongside the Millennium Rose Garden and herbaceous border.
